Osun United made a bold statement in their quest for a place in the Nigeria National League Super 8 with a narrow but decisive 1-0 victory over Warri Wolves at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

The Gladiators knew what was at stake and responded with intensity and composure from the first whistle. The opening half was balanced, with both teams carving out opportunities in a fast-paced encounter. Warri Wolves had two promising chances to take the lead, but their finishing let them down.

Just when it seemed the first half would end goalless, Osun United forward Ebenezer Odeyemi produced a moment of brilliance. With precise control on the edge of the box, he calmly slotted the ball past the Warri Wolves goalkeeper, giving his side the lead just before the break.

The second half turned into a defensive test for Osun United. Warri Wolves piled on the pressure in search of an equalizer, but defenders Gabriel Lekan and Afolabi Olatubosun stood tall, repelling wave after wave of attacks. One of the game’s defining moments came in the 60th minute when fullback Taiwo Adeboye cleared a goal-bound shot off the line. With Osun goalkeeper Ayo Ojo already beaten, Adeboye’s clearance preserved the fragile lead.

Substitute Sunday Oloche nearly doubled the advantage late in the second half, but a brilliant save from the Warri Wolves keeper denied him. On the other end, Ayo Ojo was called into action several times and responded with confidence, anchoring a backline that refused to give in.

Head coach Seye Ajayi praised his players for their discipline and grit. “This is the kind of fight we need in every game. We have to remain focused and even hungrier as we face Crown FC next,” he said. Crown FC, who lost narrowly to Kun Khalifat in their own fixture, will be desperate to bounce back.

With the playoff race heating up, Osun United’s win over Warri Wolves could prove to be a turning point in their season. The team has gained a crucial boost in confidence and will aim to ride this momentum into their upcoming matches.
