Street football is back, and it’s louder, faster, and bolder than ever. The Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Football Tournament returned for its highly anticipated second season last weekend, kicking off with electrifying matches at the Ikeja Division in Opebi.

Following the success of Season 1—where White Tigers FC clinched the championship title along with a staggering ₦5 million prize—Season 2 has come back with even more firepower. And if the opening weekend is anything to go by, this year’s edition is set to eclipse the last.

Matchday 1: Fireworks from the First Whistle

The action kicked off with a thrilling clash between Wasola FC and African Future Stars. It was a goal-fest from start to finish as Wasola edged their opponents 6-4, courtesy of standout performances from Adigun and Rotimi, who each bagged a brace. Jimber and Muhammed also found the back of the net, rounding off the team’s dominant display. For African Future Stars, Oliver impressed with two goals, while Enabong and Abas each grabbed one.

Next up was a one-sided affair that introduced us to the tournament’s first hat trick hero. Milo of Soccer Gem FA lit up the pitch with three stunning goals, guiding his team to a 6-2 victory over Useful Youth SA. Nnamdi, Daniel, and Olayiwola also joined the scoring party. For Useful Youth SA, Paul and Michael netted consolatory goals.

Matchday 2: Goals Galore Continue

Day two began with Amsterdam FC dismantling Ballers FA in a fast-paced match that ended 6-3. It was a team effort from Amsterdam, with Timothy and Sodiq each scoring twice, while Gbenga and David added one goal apiece. Though Nasir, Innocent, and Segun tried to claw Ballers FA back into the game, their efforts weren’t enough to prevent elimination.

The weekend ended on a high with what can only be described as a goal avalanche. Divinely Blessed FC were on the receiving end of an 8-3 hammering by a ruthless attacking display led by Sammy and Alabi, who each recorded hat tricks. Ebube and Daniel sealed the victory with a goal apiece. Despite Zeal’s brace and Temmy’s late goal, Divinely Blessed FC had no answer to the onslaught.

Total Goals: 38 Reasons to Stay Tuned

In just four matches, an astounding 38 goals were scored. That’s nearly 10 goals per match—a statistic that hints at an even more explosive tournament than the previous edition.

The Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Football Tournament is more than just a grassroots event—it’s a showcase of raw talent, passion, and the street essence of Nigerian football. With this kind of start, fans can expect drama, flair, and unforgettable moments as the tournament heats up in the coming weeks.
