The Super Eagles of Nigeria have officially kicked off preparations for their crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off against Gabon, with the team’s camp in Rabat, Morocco, springing to life as players arrive for national duty.

Among the first to report were Fulham FC stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, joined by AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze, as the trio settled quickly into camp to begin early tactical drills. They were soon joined by Wilfred Ndidi, the recently appointed vice-captain of Turkish giants Beşiktaş, alongside Tolu Arokodare of Genk and Olakunle Olusegun, who plays for Russian club FC Krasnodar.

The Super Eagles’ technical crew and backroom staff had arrived earlier to finalize logistical and tactical plans for what promises to be a high-stakes encounter. Monday evening’s light training session set the tone for an intense buildup, with the full squad expected to be complete by Tuesday morning.

Nigeria will face Gabon on Thursday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat in the first leg of the CAF-organised World Cup play-off. The return fixture will determine which team progresses to the Intercontinental Play-offs in March 2026—the final hurdle before securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Head coach Eric Chelle has emphasized three key themes for his players—discipline, intensity, and unity—as the Super Eagles focus on fine-tuning tactical shapes, improving set-piece execution, and sharpening match fitness in the days leading up to Thursday’s showdown.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), all travel and camp logistics have been finalized, and morale within the squad is described as “very high.” The team will hold a closed-door session on Wednesday to perfect their game plan before taking on a determined Gabonese side looking to spoil Nigeria’s qualification dreams.
