Super Eagles Injury Update: Alebiosu and Dessers Face Fitness Tests at AFCON Camp

The Super Eagles camp has been hit by fresh injury concerns at a crucial stage of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations as defenders and forwards alike battle fitness issues that could affect Nigeria’s plans for the rest of the tournament.

Ryan Alebiosu is currently under close medical observation after sustaining a cut on his right leg. The injury has raised questions about his immediate availability, with the medical team keeping a careful watch on how the wound responds to treatment before making a decision on his return to full training. While the injury is not believed to be season-ending, any delay in recovery could limit his involvement as the competition intensifies and squad rotation becomes essential.

In a separate development, Cyriel Dessers was notably absent from the matchday squad due to a thigh problem. The Super Eagles forward is scheduled to undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury and establish a clear recovery plan. The scan will provide clarity on whether the issue is a minor strain or something that requires a longer period of rest.

Dessers’ absence was precautionary, according to camp sources, as the technical crew opted not to take risks with a player who could still play a key role later in the tournament. His fitness will be reassessed once the scan results are available, with decisions to be made based on medical advice and match demands.

With AFCON known for its physical demands and tight schedules, injuries are an unavoidable part of the competition. The Super Eagles coaching and medical teams are now focused on managing workloads and ensuring players return only when fully fit, rather than risking setbacks that could weaken the squad.
