1472 FC Expelled from 2024/25 NNL Season: Lagos FA Reacts, Urges Financial Reform

Lagos State FA calls for urgent financial reforms after 1472 FC’s expulsion from the Nigeria National League due to repeated match absences.

The management of the Nigeria National League (NNL), on Tuesday, announced the expulsion of the Lagos-based NNL side, 1472 football club, from the 2024/2025 season. The team was expelled after missing three matches in the ongoing season.

And following the unfortunate situation, the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), has reacted quickly to the matter, which it described as painful and unfortunate.

In a statement signed by the Lagos FA Chairman, Hajji Gafar Liameed, it calls the expulsion of the team and the decision of the NNL regrettable and a big lesson to other teams to ensure financial stability before they dabble in the football business.

“Recently the LSFA held a meeting with football stakeholders and potential investors, where we advised and suggested a consensual funding plan called ‘Football Clubs Indemnity Account’,” he disclosed.

“We advised clubs to make the deposits to the FA for their full season’s financial stability. Having a healthy account balance with the FA will provide them with financial flexibility, which will cover operational expenses, game day funds, and player and staff salaries.

“If that has been done before the season, no club would be expelled from any of the leagues. We shall revisit the proposed financial plans and hope the clubs embrace the idea for their development and sporting benefits,” he added.
