Wikki Tourists FC, relegated from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) two seasons ago, completed their long-awaited return in dominant fashion. Meanwhile, Barau FC, the ambitious side backed by Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, made history by achieving promotion just one year after joining the NNL.

Wikki Tourists Run Riot in Asaba
At the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Wikki Tourists faced Yobe Desert Stars in a decisive matchday 3 fixture of the NNL Super 8 Northern Conference. With only two points from their opening matches, the stakes were sky-high for the Tourists. The mission was clear — win convincingly, and hope the math works.
They did not leave it to chance.
Wonderson, wearing jersey number 9, lit up the pitch with a stunning first-half hat trick. He opened the scoring in the 7th minute, doubled the lead in the 15th, and completed his treble by the 23rd minute, sending the Wikki fans into a frenzy. Habila added a fourth goal in the 37th minute, sealing the game and the Tourists’ promotion before halftime.
With a 4-0 win, Wikki Tourists not only secured their promotion back to the NPFL but also finished top of the Northern Conference. They now prepare for the NNL Championship final, where they will battle the winners of the Southern Conference.

Barau FC Rise from Ozoro to the NPFL
In another defining moment of matchday 3, Barau FC confirmed their place among Nigeria’s football elite. Playing at the J. O. O. Wyak Stadium in Ozoro, the NNL newcomers stunned Doma United with two early goals to seal promotion.
Usman Maidubji opened the scoring in the 8th minute, and just seven minutes later, Shammasu doubled the lead. The early blitz was enough to see off Doma United and guarantee Barau FC’s spot in next season’s NPFL.
This remarkable feat marks a major milestone for the team from Nigeria’s West Central region, capping off their debut NNL campaign with a ticket to the country’s top division.
